and the ruins left behind.

On this day a fire was lit in an apartment building by two juvenile boys. The fire grew and spread out of control and destroyed numerous apartment buildings, the Loretto House (a home for homeless men), Kates Kitchen (a place for needy to get food),  and the Perpetual Help Church which was built in 1923. The fire also damaged Perpetual Help School.
It took the efforts of about 10 city and town fire departments to extinguish the firestorm.
